The Epoch Times, the Nashville Republican Women, Williamson County Young Republicans, and Davidson County Young Republicans are scheduled to host a debate with a unique format on Tuesday July 12 for the Republican primary in the race for Tennessee’s 5th Congressional District seat.
The Tuesday, July 12 debate will take place at the Landmark Auditorium located at 100 7th Ave. N., #4, in Nashville, Tennessee. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the debate will begin at 6:45 p.m.
It will be streamed live by Epoch Times TV across the United States.
The five top candidates in the August contest for the Republican nomination for TN-5 have been invited. Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles, combat veteran Jeff Beierlein, State Senate aide Tres Wittum, and former Tennessee National Guard Brigadier General Kurt Winstead have all confirmed their attendance.
Former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Beth Harwell has been invited but has yet to confirm her attendance.
The debate will be unique in the fact that subject matter experts will be asking the candidates questions or, as all-star panelist of The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy and Epoch Times Editor-at-Large Roger Simon puts it, “No Chris Wallaces interrupting the candidates when they are trying to make their points.”
Simon will be serving as the debate moderator, serving to facilitate the questioning by subject matter experts.
The subject matter experts who will be questioning the candidates will include Hans von Spakovsky, an American attorney, senior legal fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies and a former member of the Federal Election Commission. Von Spakovsky will be serving as the panel expert on election integrity.
Gordon G. Chang, the author of The Coming Collapse of China and The Great U.S. – China Tech War and a columnist and lawyer who appears on on Fox Business, is serving as the panel expert on China and foreign policy.
Jeffrey A. Tucker, who can be found on the pages of The Epoch Times and Capitalism Magazine and others as an economist who also participates in the libertarian think tank the American Institute for Economic Research, will be the panel expert on healthcare policy and COVID-19 response. He is also the founder of The Brownstone Institute, which is dedicated to establishing better healthcare policy after the lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wilfred Reilly, an American political scientist and assistant professor at Kentucky State University, will be the panel expert on education. Reilly has contributed to the 1776 Project (an academic rebuttal to the 1619 Project) and is also the author of Hate Crime Hoax: How the Left is Selling a Fake Race War.
David Bell will sit on the panel of experts as the subject matter expert on public health. Dr. Bell is an Australian public health physician with global experience working for various organizations in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Europe, including the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Bell voiced opposition to the WHO’s new pandemic treaty.
